Headshots for performance

Preparing for your photo shoot

To get the most out of your photo session, take some time to think about your hair, make-up and clothing.

For a standard headshot, you see just the head and shoulders, so the neckline of your clothing becomes important. Choose a shape that flatters you and that you feel comfortable and confident wearing. Do not choose anything too fussy, as it can detract from your face. Choose a tone that suits your coloring. A V-neck will lengthen your neck and a round neckline shortens it. A collar frames the face well. If you are unsure, bring a couple of different colors and necklines. Avoid logos.

Avoid very busy patterns or very big jewelry, as they will take the attention away from your face.

For a corporate portrait, decide whether you want to wear a jacket or not. Co-ordinate your shirt, jacket and tie so that it all works well together. Avoid a black suit with a white shirt as it can have too much contrast and detract from the overall image.

If you need a haircut, get one about a week before your scheduled appointment.

Make-up should be applied lightly, it is easier to add more make-up if necessary than to take it off. Do not hide your skin with a heavy base. We may powder your nose and forehead if you are a bit shiny when we shoot. Don’t worry if you develop a pimple on the day of the shoot - that’s what Photoshop is for!

There is a full bathroom at the studio so you can check your appearance and make any adjustments before the shoot.

For a three-quarter or full length photograph, you need to consider your whole outfit, but the same rules apply regarding color, style and pattern.

Please feel free to contact us if you need any other specific ideas.
